Meet the Scoot Team
October 10th, 2019
Meet some of the faces behind Scoot in San Francisco.
Maitland, Sr. Vehicle Engineer at Scoot.
Tell us how you got started at Scoot.
I started working at Scoot 7 years ago. I had been working on vintage bikes for over a decade at the time, so when Michael got the crazy idea to try to unlock mopeds with a smartphone; they called me to see if I could lend my expertise to the problem. From there, I grew with our company and their needs. I went from being the first field mechanic (driving around the city with a backpack full of tools), to running our local crew of mechanics, to opening new markets, and now leading our vehicle R&D efforts.
What’s your favorite thing about working at Scoot?
Everything was super new. When we were pioneering shared, dockless micro-mobility solutions in 2012, no one had done it before. We brought together a lot of people who were passionate about the space and built a product that we believed could have an impact on our community. The Scoot team always puts safety first. We live here, know the neighbors, and want to keep everyone safe.
What is your favorite thing about San Francisco?
I love the two-wheeled community in San Francisco. I started riding mopeds in the city in 2007, and it’s been a lot of fun to introduce more people here to two wheels. We’ve done a lot of fun things with this community from working with a two-wheel coffee shop, providing in-person training classes across the city, to partnering with the local scooter shop down the block from us for some of our service needs when we needed to grow quickly.
