What is Scoot?
What exactly is Scoot?
Scoot is a network of hundreds of electric scooters that you can pick up and drop off all over San Francisco.
How green is Scoot really?
Scoots get the equivalent of 600 MPG. When you are riding one, it uses about half the power of your toaster to carry you around the city at 25 MPH. Even when you factor in the emissions from the power plants that make the electricity that goes into a scoot's battery, the scoot still emits 2% of what a car emits when driving in the city. Nearly every part of the scoot is recyclable, including the battery.
How many scoots are there?
We currently have about 500 scooters on the road here in San Francisco. Every few months we add more scoots to the fleet.
What do I need to sign up?
You need a valid US driver's license, a clean driving record and a credit or debit card. Sorry, we do not accept prepaid cards.
Do I need a special type of license?
Nope. But, you do need to be 18+ years old with a clean driving record and a valid driver's license.
Do I need insurance?
We get asked this question a lot, but before we answer it, we want to remind you that insurance isn’t what keeps you safe. Whether you’re scooting or biking or just cooking with something that’s past its sell-by date, you have to look out for yourself and for others. Insurance only helps if something goes wrong. Having said that, what can happen on a scoot and how can insurance help? For one, your scoot could tip over. Most scoots, like bikes, only have two wheels, which means they don’t stand up on their own and can slip and fall on things like wet train tracks (the number one cause of scoot falls). If this happens to you, it will probably hurt, but not so badly that you will need medical attention. If you do need medical attention, the insurance that applies is your health insurance. Just like most car rental companies, bike rental companies, or Zipcar, Scoot does not insure your body or provide medical insurance.
Do I need a helmet?
You are legally required to wear a helmet while riding. Luckily, our scoots come with 2 sizes of helmets stowed in the back! You can also bring your own if you want.
