Picnic at Memorial Grove
The AIDS Memorial Grove is a quiet little pasture and rock river near the tennis courts in Golden Gate Park. It’s far away from major roads and the surrounding trees are home to plenty of birds who will grace your ears with their beautiful whistling. The rock river on the east side is shady, and it’s a great place to clear your mind while practicing the easy and relaxing art of rock stacking. Plus, it’s a breeze to scoot to! Take this ride if you’re looking for a secluded place to have a picnic with someone special.
1. Pick up your scoots and head towards Whole Foods on Haight St.
2. Grab some snacks for a picnic!
3. Hop back on your scoots, and ride from Whole Foods through the Golden Gate Park, onto Nancy Pelosi Dr.
4. Stop when you see the Memorial Grove sign and hike down into the Grove. Set up camp and enjoy the sights and sounds that it has to offer.
Make sure to explore every nook and cranny of the park — there are a lot of beautiful quotes (on rocks!) and plants that are just waiting to get attention from you. Don’t forget to try rock stacking with your boo, it’s a great way to bond over an unusual and relaxing practice.
